OBJECTIVES:
Our program is based on what is called the “Minnesota Model” which is the model used for counseling for alcohol and drug problems throughout the U.S. This model is based on a thorough assessment at the beginning (the intake interview), the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous, and helping you change the thoughts/beliefs/feelings/behaviors that have brought you into the criminal justice system as a result of your alcohol and/or drug use. We trust that through your counseling experience it will have some part in your never being involved with the criminal justice system again.
APPOINTMENT TIMES:
All appointments and groups are scheduled throughout the week (most appointments and groups are after 5:00 PM weekdays and daytimes on Saturdays at select locations) for your convenience. Please call 407-249-1146 for evaluation fees as all fees must be paid by cash or money order.
AGENCY HISTORY & PHILOSOPHY:
Colonial Counseling Associates has been providing services to clients since 1988. We have always specialized in working with clients referred by the Central Florida Safety Council and the Department of Corrections. Colonial is committed to treating you with respect and fairness; however, we need you to understand that any counseling program you select will have rules and requirements, as does our program per State of Florida Administrative Code Chapter 65D-30 licensure standards for substance abuse services. We will make these rules as clear to you as possible at the time of intake. We are realistic enough to know it is likely you are not happy about being referred to our agency and we will do everything we can to see to it you can complete your counseling program in the minimum amount of time and cost given your needs. We will need your cooperation to successfully complete your program in the least amount of time. We aim to be flexible and tailor your program to your shifting needs as you move through the treatment program.
TREATMENT GOALS:
No provider can set treatment goals over the telephone. A provider must do an in person intake interview to complete the initial treatment goals. Treatment goals are based on the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) principles and on a careful assessment of your individual needs as required by the State of Florida Administrative Code Chapter 65D-30 licensure standards for substance abuse services that all providers are required to follow. Your treatment goals are based on over 30 factors (standards set in advance) of symptoms/behaviors common to clients involved with alcohol or drug issues. For both clinical and financial reasons your treatment goals will be in the least intensive program that could result in a successful discharge in the shortest period of time.
